Methodology

The FAO Food Price Index (FAO-FPI) is published by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The headline index and its five sub-indices — cereals, meat, dairy, vegetable oils and sugar — are constructed and maintained by FAO; Demeter republishes the values without modification as a companion macro reference series.

For the authoritative methodology document, basket composition, weighting and revision conventions, please refer to FAO's published methodology.

For questions about Demeter's republished feed or licensing FAO-FPI alongside Demeter's proprietary catalogue, please contact the index team.
