This is the first publication for the 2027/28 crop. The index has reset to its seasonal baseline and does not continue the previous series. It adopts the updated DASI methodology noted in the final publication for the 2026/27 crop. California stands at 99.7 in week 2, 0.5% lower than the season's opening value of 100.2. Regional readings run from 99.1 in Southern San Joaquin to 100.4 in Northern San Joaquin. Among the larger counties, Solano and Yolo were 1.9 to 2.8% higher and Tulare was 1.7% lower.
The 2026/27 crop, now being marketed, is forecast at 2.694 billion pounds (range 2.602 to 2.785), 0.8% below the 2.715 billion pounds USDA NASS recorded for 2025. By the August report, 22.1% of the expected crop was shipped or committed, against a median of 26.3% and a range of 21.9% to 37.8% since 2000. Shipments are running at the normal pace for a crop this size, though 21% above the same point last year.
Headline publication is fortnightly except during the bloom period, when it is weekly.
